Short-eared Owl

Short-eared Owl, photographed on a very cold and dull January morning. I quite like the monochromatic feel to the shot, this really conveys the shooting conditions at the time; it was an awfully bleak day.

The one thing I'm not happy with is the very grainy/noisy background, I really need to know how to create a separate layer, just for noise removal in the background, so if anyone can help that would be appreciated.

Thanks for the feedback on my last post and thanks for looking.

open a new layer and perform the NR then erase carefully over the area you want sharp, then flatten the image. this should do the trick, hope it helps :wavey:

I really like the fringe of light at the end of the bird's feathers. I love the BG and am sure I can see two faces to the left of the bird.  hic, hic !!

I do noise reduction the same way as Phil, but keep on meaning to give Neat Image a go. I like the monochromatic effect as well, helps those eyes to stand out.

Brilliant shot, Andy :toast: The soft pastel colour pallet makes it a bit special.

Hi Andy

Yes I love the mood/coditions you convey in this image and even though the lighting is very flat you have plenty of contrast in the owl - nice one.
