Summer Splendor

This is another image from my backpacking trip into the Heart Lake basin in Yellowstone NP. My wife and I spent 4 beautiful days exploring the backcountry in this area last week.

In this image, I tried to capture the feeling of what it was like sitting next to this small steam with several thunderstorms rumbling in the distance. It works for me, but let me know what you think.

Nikon D7000, Nikkor 12-24 dx, polarizer, 4 stop ND
1/6 sec at f/16, ISO 100.

All C&C are appreciated. Please view larger version.

I really like the whites on the water and it's movement, very dynamic, the composition and colors great too.

It works for me too Scott, especially your processing and control of the scene's dynamic range. I was fortunate enough to spend nearly the whole month of September '09 in Yellowstone. I did many backpacking trips in various areas of the park. Heart Lake was literally next on the to-do list before the weather forced us out of the park in early October. I am looking forward to seeing some of your shots of the lake as this + your last are both teasers. Yellowstone was and still remains my favorite national park.

PS - I can't even detect a hint of grad use, which is very impressive considering you were rocking a 4 stopper. :wavey:

Beatiful view here, Scott. I like the texture in the water with the right balance between detail and blur. The wildflowers are beautiful as well.

Excellent image, I like the bright, lively action on the water and the darker shadows on the left are perfectly exposed IMO giving the scene a strong sense of realism while still allowing for plenty of creative expression. :toast:
I've been thinking of picking up a 4-stop grad just for these types of shots.......I think I just became convinced.

This is really nice, Scott. Very nice elements throughout the frame and the water texture makes it so I can almost hear this.

I really like your comp here and control of the sunlight. The ND worked well to give some texture to the water. Very well done!
