Porzana carolina

I was extremely happy to get this shot of a Sora out in the open. I spent about three hours watching this bird and I counted 10 others. This appears to be a juvenile due to the buffy breast and neck color. They were feeding on some type of larvae in the mud as seen in the image.

Please view the larger post for detail.

7D, 500mm f4L IS, tripod
ISO 200, 1/500, f8, Exp. Comp. -1/3
72% of full frame (12.89 of 18 mp)

All comments and critique very appreciated.
Thank You.

Way to get this bird out like this and having prey in the bill is a big bonus. No real nits

A bird and its worm, who could ask for more?
Seriously, it's a wonderful behavioral shot Matt.
Colors and exposure look excellent, great details..
Also like the leaning forward tail up pose or "stance" here, well done! :toast:

Nice to capture this in the open and that too feeding, Matt. The image is very sharp and you captures an excellent pose. The algae in water is also interesting. :toast:

Wow Matt,
Not only did you get this bird out in the open (rare) but you also got it with food in it's mouth (double rare). To top things off the colors are good and it's nice and sharp. VERY NICE!!

Congrats getting this one in the open - I don't suppose a lower angle was an option?
