Wood and grain textures inside an old hollowed-out Lodgepole Pine near Sonora Pass, CA.

Lon, Harley and I had a great time up there among the mountains, and the great big sky!

The trees out west have so much character, and you've captured it perfectly here. The color variations and different shapes really stand out here. Very nice Preston.

That title made me chuckle! :jump:
A very nice study in textures, lines, and color.

Lodgepoles are great for color and patterns. This is a fun image and a fun title. I like the simplicity of the composition and the sunny character you seemed to have captured here. Very nice

Preston,

I just love these old trees and you've really captured some great detail and more than that, the "character" of this old, weathered, hollowed out and probably lightning-struck lodgepole.

No nits as I think this looks fabulous as presented. If you don't mind though, I will post this image for others to get some context. This is actually Harley from 2010, but the same tree and same set up (we've done this one before....)

Great work Preston.

Preston, your image has a nice abstract quality for me. I especially enjoy the natural colors and delightful details of the bark.

Very cool transition from the reds of the upper left corner to the blues in the lower right. I get the feeling you could look at the detail for a long time and see new things. Gotta love the details in these old guys.

Man, you guys are so good at these. I've tried it before, but somehow, it does not come out they way I hope for. One day I'll get I guess. But this is really nice!

A beautiful bark portrait, Preston. Love the warm red and orange tones. A nice comp with lots of interest from L to R, and the placement of the eye is excellent.
