Taken on the Matthews River, AK, August 2011.
Matthews River in on the South slope of the Brooks Range. I understand it is the oldest mountain range in Alaska.
A lot of rock and ultra-clear water.

Nikon D300
Nikkor 18-200 lens @ 18 mm
Programmed Auto, +0.3 ev.
Center weighted.
ISO 200.
Pro6 and NX2 processing.

This is a beautiful scene with lots of textures and interesting elements but what I like best about it is the creamy colors and the play of shadows throughout.

I quite like your composition here Larry...great light too...though I find luminosity overall to be just a tad too bright. Toning down overall highlights using a multiplied luminosity mask will enhance the textures/detail IMHO

Larry,
I like the comp and you have some interesting geology here, too. It does seem a little bright or maybe lacking some contrast, but overall a very nice scene.

Interesting place. Could maybe see cropping a bit of the foreground.

Larry,

I like your image and composition here. I think you've captured a sense of the place with not only the rocks and geology, but kind of that rugged, raw beauty that is Alaska.

I would agree with the previous comments that this is a little bright, and also leaning a little yellow in those highlights. I think some tweaking of luminosity and you'll have a good one.

Thanks for the constructive comments. I tend to increase luminescence too much as a rule. Primarily when I have prints made they are always darker.

I've submitted a toned-down version and appear to have a "blowout" on the cloud in the upper right. The decrease is not as evident on the small version as it is on the original. Compaction and reduction???

One person suggested cropping the foreground. I like the "leading line of the shadow on the lower left which is continued along the cliff face. Comments?

Again, thanks. Still learning.

Larry,

Repost is mucho better. Personally, I like the lead-in of the foreground shadow and triangle as well and wouldn't crop. But that's just me. Thanks for reposting.
