Sleeping Beauty

Rocky shores at Burleigh Heads, Queensland.

It was dark, cold and raining steadily on this winter morning, but the atmosphere was perfect for creating some b&w images. I liked the way these boulders seemed to be laying down and sleeping, an illusion enhanced by the misty water effect.

D80, Sigma 10-20 @14mm, f/11, 30sec.

Many thanks for your c&c.

Wonderful B&W David. Reminds me of St Ann's Bay in Cape Breton NS. The misty water adds mood and character to the dark rocks and provides a good balance. The strip of light on the horizon is also very nice. I like this a lot.

Wonderful picture, David. I like the classical composition and the long exposure effect. B&W conversion job is superb. The URC is slightly too dark to my taste but that't nitpicking.

This is a beautifully executed B&W image, David. I really love the mood created here with the large boulders and the misty water swirling about them. :toast:

The wave action and light on the horizon really draw me into the scene. Great tones, too. Nicely done.

very graphic, and perfect for the conversion. The contrast between the shoreline surf and the rocks is great. Nice weather/atmosphere too.

David,

A perfect opportunity and setting to take advantage of the very long exposure. I think the effects work perfectly here. Aside from the rocks and interaction with the water, I'm particularly drawn to the graduated light from left to right over the sea and also the strip of light in the background; the light in the background creates great interest to keep the eye moving around the frame.

Beautifully crafted and captured.

You hit me in my soft spot! I adore misty shoreline rock shots. This one, in me, evokes a sense of mystery and infinity tinged with a bit of melancholy. Very moving! Thanks :toast:

I like it. Very nicely composed and processed, and the long exposure works very well here.

Very moody shot David, the soft surf looks great against the hard metalic looking rocks.

That little edge of light reflected on the horizon is wonderful. Beyond its own aesthetics, I think (like Lon) that it helps move your eye around the frame, helping to create some tension.
