I have prettier shots, but I chose this one because it has character. Near the top of Saddle Mountain in Clatsop County, Oregon.

An intersting shot with lots of mood and character. The fog actually adds to this scene. I'm curious about the logs though. Were they supposed to be some sort of erosion control? If so, they're apparently not working all that well

Gary, this is an ironic trail. The upper portions now have tread over gabeons. These structures are very slippery when they are wet which is most of the year. There are many sharp pipes driven into the substrate and a fall onto one of these would ruin your day. Somebody attempted to improve safety with a tangle of cables and pipes in this shot. The logs were certainly placed to deter erosion. There is even a wooden bridge that has turned into an island that the current trail route passes. I love this trail in spite of everything.

Robert, the combination of the fog and the pretty flowers makes for a very interesting image. It looks like a beautiful place to hike.

Never been to Saddle Mountain. I seem to recall reading that its noted for wildflowers, as suggested by this image. The fog adds to the mood. Thanks for sharing this.

Yes, the path is not pretty, but the scene definitely is and the fog tells a nice story about a peaceful walk through the wildflowers. Your details about the history tell an important story about our interventions in the natural world.

Wow! It looks like they'd do just as well to just remove everything and let the trail erode! What a mess! Still - I can see why you love this place! It really is beautiful. And it sure shows how futile it is to try to hold nature at bay! I love the depth the fog gives this image. Well done!
