The trail is not the primary subject in this scene so maybe not quite as appropriate for the theme as the other posts so far but it does have a two tracked trail meandering down the mountain in the lower left. This is Thompson Pass, Alaska and the trail was probably created almost a hundred years ago when a telegraph line was run down the side of the mountain. Closer to the center, where the river runs between the mountains you can also see a bit of the current highway and the old wagon trail to Valdez (at least you can see it in the large version).

Splendid composition and clouds are a big success in this view. I think I see the highway on the opposite side of the river. Do you mean that the old wagon trail is now the highway or is there a separate trail?

Impressive scale, great lighting, and excellent atmosphere. I like the way the mountain is framed by a natural vignette.

That's some grand scenery there. The clouds/fog and light add to the scenery. Beautiful image.

Charlie,

The highway is at river level at the base of the mountain on the left. The wagon trail is up slightly higher on the side of the mountain in the middle (near the bottom of the little waterfall).

It would be totally amazing to have this view when walking down the trail. The fog over the mountain is very nice, but I also like the pieces of blue sky that brighten up the scene.

The drama is great and I like how you've framed the distant peaks with the foreground tundra.

Wow! This one makes me long to get out and shoot - it's a good thing I'll be back in the mountains again soon! (We're teaching in Glacier NP next week. Whew!) I swear - I start to go through withdrawal when I don't get out in the wilderness enough!

I love the atmosphere in this image. It's just gorgeous! Well done, Gary!
