Another from my most recent Tanzania tour! Putting the finishing touches on next years trip so getting excited to return after this years success! This cheetah was growling at a Hyena who was following it. No kill around but the hyena wanted to make sure. I have one where the hyena is in the grass.....but as it was tall he was almost lost but will visit it another time.
Canon 1D Mark 3 with the Sigma 300-800mm lens at 731mm at ISO 1250 at f7.1 and 1/2500 sec.

Nice pose Roman. I like the line created by the back leg and tail.

Good light, pin sharp, and well processed Roman. The placement of the subject in the frame is well chosen. However, I find the cat's body pose not very appealing; cheetahs have such nicely shaped lean bodies, but with this pose from this angle that does not show. Any particular reason you were shooting at such high ISO/SS?

Thanks all! "Any particular reason you were shooting at such high ISO/SS? Great question Vincent!

When we came upon this cheetah it appeared he was hunting after something.....so I wanted to get the most SS for the chase and upped the ISO. Then when the Hyena came out of the grass.....I figured there would be an altercation and I would have to up the f/stop. My philosophy is to push the ISO as high as I dare for what I think may happen.....so if it does.....all I have to do is adjust either the f/stop or SS for the given situation.....pushing the Mark 3 allows me to eliminate 1 factor......and if the light is good......noise really isn't an issue. I didn't run NR on this. BTW......I do have the pose you want.....and with the Hyena in the grass covered.......will post that when I get to working on some more. Hope this explains my philosophy for in the field!

Wonderful pose and look from the cheetah. I happen to like this pose, something different with good detail around the head so you can see the teeth and eye. Way to go.

Fine capture and the techs look excellent. I am left wanting to see what he/she is looking at, so I am guessing the upcoming images will satisfy that need!

open mouth and heard turn along with the monotone colors create a pleasant image.

Roman, I actually like how the cheetah is positioned in this shot. It is different than many of the other cheetah shots I have seen posted here. i love the face and teeth. Looks like he is not very happy with something or someone.
