This bear is getting into his salmon lunch. Love the post swim hair.

cool action and pretty sharp given what looks like tough conditions. There is a halo around the bear however

What a great, dramatic shot! The eye contact with the subject, not to mention that expression make this image IMO. He may have had a bad hair day, but you clearly did not. That processing issue could be easily resolved.

Before I read your text I was grinning from the "bad hair day!" Neat capture.

Great eye contact and detail! A little extra work on the post processing would remove the not so subtle halo around the bear. This looks like an attempt either to make the bear lighter or the BG darker.

That hairdo is fantastic Andrew. A 'real-life' image for sure . I do echo Luke's comment about a visible halo. There are some strange light spots along the top edge of the bear.

I need some help in learning how to eliminate the halos caused by selective darkening in my images. Any help appreciated !!!!

The look on his face is priceless Andrew! He looks like he had to work harder than he ever had before in his life for that Salmon. Great work! My only nit is looks lie you left some artifacts from processing on top of the head and back. Not sure of your method...I just saw your comments. What SW were you using and techniques?

Try this: Go to select>Color Range and click on the bright halo area. Expand the fuzziness to 80 and click "OK". Then select the brush tool and the foreground color you want to paint over the halo with. I recommend setting the brush opacity at 50% and hiding the "marching ants" (Control+H). Now paint away the halo. If the selection too narrow or broad, back up and reselect using a different fuzziness setting.
