Black Crake

This is a local wader that is tricky to even see out of thick reeds and waterside growth. On this occasion we were on a small boat on a farmland pond. I shot with the camera rested over the side of the boat, a few inches from the water level.

Techs:
Canon 7D with 100-400mm L IS USM @ 360mm
f5.6 @ 1/500 SS @ ISO-1250

A really super looking bird Morkel. One I have never seen before. Great light and exposure. That eye area is really stunning. Nice overall comp, sharpness, and BG. Well done. Love it!

Very nice! I'd not known of this rail before your post. Excellent exposure. Nice action. Strong composition.

Really like the running pose and the colorful setting works nicely with the dark bird. The lily pads have an interesting edge that looks like a coronet, nice addition.

Excellent details in the blacks. Love the striding pose. The surroundings, especially the soft water, enhance the image nicely.

Nice walking pose and nice low angle, Morkel. The soft light is great. Your exposure looks dead on, with plenty of detail in the blacks. Great image.
