Remembering Spring
by Youssef Ismail
Back in April I posted a digital capture of this expansive field of tidy tips and coreopsis in Carizzo Plain. That photo was a 3 or 4 frame stitched panorama with a 6MP DSLR. At the time I also photographed this field with the 4x5 and covered this same span with 3 vertical 4x5 transparencies. I just finished processing the 4x5 version that I am sharing with you now. The master file is over 6 GB in size and I can print this at full resolution at a whopping 50" x 100". The detail is staggering and unfortunately all but lost as jpegs. In any case enjoy.
3 - 4x5 frames, 150mm, Fuji Provia 100F, PS CS3 for stitching and processing.

The larger size is a must-see to get the full impact of the details!

I just love the angle you choose for the photo, It really depicts inmensity. I think I've never seen such a huge field of flowers and the stitched format surely shows the detail. The Large version is awesome!
favorite destinations. Your exposure looks right on to me. I have no suggestions
for changes.
With a print of that size (50"x100") it would fee like you can literally walk into this field of flowers.
That's one boatload of flowers! I know this can only be appreciated LARGE! I've yet to process anything over 2GB - as it is, that brings my PC to it's knees! Can't imagine a 6G file! Great job with this one.

Lon, yes 2 GB files not only brought my old computer to its knees but made it say uncle too. I was trying to stitch together just two 4x5's and it did not have the memory to do it. I had purchased a new hp laptop with 4GB of memory after my old one died and I tried to stitch on it and it worked without any problem. So that is when I made the decision to upgrade. Not a happy month getting everything on the new machine and not everything works the same, especially Photoshop CS3 but at least now I have more power to work on these bigger files. I still need to upgrade to CS5 or higher to utilize the full memory the new machine has. As it is now CS3 does not know how to access above 3GB.
