Gull

Canon EOS REBEL T2i
EF400mm f/5.6L USM

1/400 sec
Aperture priority
f/9
ISO 400
Lying in the sand, camera on top of stuff
Hilton Head Island, SC
Raw, CS5, 76% of FF

I wish there had been blue behind the gull's head at the time of this shot (which is otherwise the best of the images I shot), but maybe it stands out well anyway? Also, I don't know which type of gull this is.

Comments and suggestions are appreciated and desired.

Thank you!

Hi Barbara... love the setting and head turn of the gull, giving you that glance toward the camera. Nice low angle too. I can't tell on my monitor if the eye may be a touch out of focus, or perhaps just needs a little more sharpening?

This is a Laughing Gull in first winter plumage.

There's sufficient separation of the head from the breaking wave in the BG. The directional light and head turn help give the subject some dimension and help with the separation.

Colors look natural. Exposure looks good. The pose is good, and the composition works.

The low angle has many benefits for the composition, although I'd prefer that the out of focus area at the bottom of the frame wasn't so strong.

A bit more depth-of-field might have helped the sharpness of the eye.

Overall, a nice image that works for me.

Nice job. Great low angle and that bit of light pops on the head. The waves are ok in th background for me.

Hi, Barbara! A nice low pose, good exposure, eye contact. I agree with Richard's assessment. You might look at a bit more sharpening, just to make sure.

Very nice composition with the low perspective and I really like the breaking waves in the background. The gull's head area behind the beak does look a little soft in the larger version but a well seen shot, nice job in getting this.
