I haven't contributed in awhile, but hope to get back into it more soon!
This was taken last week on my 2nd trip to Alaska. We struggled to find clear skies all week. When we heard the aurora were forcasted to be 'extreme' on our last night, we drove 2 hours out on the Glenn Highway and waited. The display only lasted 20 minutes, but it was my first experience with the northern lights, and was amazing!

Canon 5D2. 16-35. f/2.8. 4 sec. ISO 1600. Please check out the LARGER VERSION - the stars show up much better!

Quite an effective portrayal of the aurora! I liked how you worked the road, the slope on the left and the mountain range into the composition.

Lovely shot. I like how the Aurora is lighting up the hillside and your parallel highways, green in the sky and gray/yellow on the ground.

Thanks Dietrich, Joseph and Mark. Mark, the hillside was actually lit up by a full moon, which was a nice bonus.

Nicely done. Looks like it was fall color time in Alaska.

Nice job, Doug. I think the most appealing aspect of the photo (aside from the northern lights) is the pattern created by the converging triangles of highway, land, and lights. Nice balance between light and dark.

Carol
