Red Jack Lake Rainbow 2
by Nick Bristol
This is another shot of this rainbow from last fall. I was going through the raw files that I haven't done anything with yet from last fall. I didn't even realize that I had a few more shots of this rainbow that I just had skipped over I guess. Probably thought others were better at the time. This shot was made a few exposures ahead of the one I posted before. I will put the other shot below here so you can look at that one too. I kind of think I like this one better after almost a year now. I thought it was interesting that in this shot the faded part of the rainbow is on the opposite side of the lake. The later shot below is faded on the right side. Thanks for any of your thoughts.
5D2, 24mm, iso 160, f/14 and 1/40 sec. Polarizer
I also think this one was shot on auto white balance and the one below on the cloudy setting in case you are interested.

22 commentsA rainbow reflected? Wow!
This is awesome and the foliage makes the shot really unique.
A total winner.
Easy choice for me. This recent post is the stronger of the two. The light, color and surface area for the reflection are much better with this one. Which, makes this one even better than your previous image!
I don't know how to suggest pulling it off, but if you could pop the rainbow even more this could be even better still. As it is though, I guess I'll just have to settle for a fabulous rainbow and reflection image.

I have found that "popping" the rainbow some more can be achieved by carefully selecting as much of it as possible and selectively tweaking contrast.
Morkel, I might give that a try and see what happens. Sounds like something I might be able to handle.
Morris, You know, I actually thought about that too looking at both of these. I think that is way past my photoshop abilities, but it does seem like it would be pretty cool. Thanks guys! Nick

Peter, I liked that the calm water showed the reflection of the fall color better too in the new post. Like you I also like the wb look better in this one.
Taylor, I think the rainbow reflection was a first time for me too!
Tom, You probably have one very close to this I would think. I hope you weren't changing your lens at the time to get a wider view. I know I did just after this showed with the reflection and was worried I would miss it. Yes, see you there and looking forward to it.
Thanks guys! Nick
