Got One and Repost

This is similar to the one I posted last month but the bear's front leg is vertical in this one. I like the bear's head turn and the view of the fish better on this one IMHO. Alaska- Katmai National Park

Nikon D300 F8 1/250 ISO 400 Nikon 200-400

I used only curves to eliminate some issues I have had with selective coloring using the lasso tool in other shots.

Comments and critiques please. I am looking for a good one to submit to a regional nature photo show.

Thanks

Andrew

Nice image - great of the bear's head and the salmon, especially.
Needa a good boost in sats and contrast, imo, as it's pretty flat.
In the large view, it's fairly soft, so try some added sharpening too.
A little levels adjustment of the eye would likely bring it out more.

Sandy is correct as always. The eye was lightened slightly in the original so I did not want to overdue that. Check this version with the contrast and brightness boosted

Respost was definitely way to go. Would be tempted to lighten the eye a few points too.

Nice capture of the capture Andrew! I think Sandy gave you some good tis, because the repost looks like a huge improvement to my eyes. Congrats on the capture!

Hi Andrew,

Definitely agree with the others that the re-post is an improvement. In both versions I quite like the implied movement seen on the left front leg and the wet/dry look of the head. If this image was mine I'd probably do some selective exposure work (increase) in the facial region between the fish's eye and the bear's eye (with care - opening up the exposure here too much would look very unnatural).

Cheers...

Brad
