Canon 1D Mark 4 With EF 300 mm 2.8
1/80 sec, F 6.3, ISO 1250

I have been trying to get some good photos of these guys at night. I found an area adjacent a well lighted area where because of the light they don't get red eye. This was taken with the aid of an LED flashlight at night. The bird thankfully unstressed posed for me for 45 minutes. I was able to capture my pictures as close as 10 feet away. It was a truly magical encounter for me.

Thanks for looking and commenting.

Mike

I like your approach -- you went out of the box and it works. Even getting a catchlight in those gorgeous eyes, The overall darkness puts the owl into his environment, Very nice

Really nice work, Mike. The colors are beautiful, even with the darkness. 1/80s and the sharpness is superb. Well thought out and carried out.

Very cool, Michael. I like the lighting and the fact that you didn't try to boost it to look like daylight. This conveys the night very well and still shows all the detail anyone could wish. It must indeed have been magical.
