Centennial Mountains
by Mia McPherson
This view of the Centennial Mountains is from the Lower Lake campground at Red Rock Lakes National Wildlife Refuge. I have spent a lot of time there the past two years. On this morning there was a low fog just before the rise of the mountains and low hanging clouds just above the fog. I thought the sun light was delightful. This image was taken in August and there was still some snow visible on the mountains even that late in the summer.
Red Rock Lakes National Wildlife Refuge in southern Montana is an amazing place with a wide windswept valley, beautiful lakes, soaring mountains, plenty of birds and other animals and whenever I go there I feel a marvelous sense of peace. I've done several blog posts about it and I just can't seem to get enough of the place.
This is my first time posting in Man & Nature though I often view the other beautiful images posted here.
Taken with a D200, handheld, f11, 1/45, ISO 400, +1.0 EV, 18-200mm VR at 18 mm. Cropped a bit from the top. Larger version provided.
Thanks for looking.

5 commentsI really like the leading line of the road, the framing, and the warmth of the foreground against the cool of the fog.

Mark, the lake isn't visible in this shot, the low lying light area at the base of the mountains is fog then above it a small view of the mountains then the low hanging clouds. Photos I took from the mountains looking back to the lake with the fog/mist over it were interesting too, perhaps I'll have to post one of those in the future.
