Highway Sunrise

After chasing the moonset one September morning, I stopped at a gas station to get a drink, when I saw the sun coming up across the highway. I sprinted back to the car for the camera and snapped shots until the sun got too bright. For some reason, when the sun is a nice red, I can never get anything but yellow unless I tweak it in editing. Does anyone else have that problem?

Shirley,

Thanks for posting. I can certainly see why you were so excited about this scene and I would have done the same thing - even if I didn't have a camera, I would simply enjoy the beauty of this moment.

Not sure what to suggest about the color and situation you describe, but I will say that when you're shooting directly in to the sun - regardless of the conditions... that ball of gas is so intense and so bright that our cameras simply can't handle the intensity. I suspect that within the camera, sensors, etc. that color channels are simply getting blown out which is why you end up having to "assist" the colors later in processing. Just my guess...

As John mentioned, this is more appropriate in the Man & Nature Gallery. I'll be moving this after posting my comments. If you have any questions please let one of us moderators know.

Thanks!
Lon

Well, I thought that was where I put the shot to begin with--in Man and nature.
