Gallery: Macro & Close-upPosted October 11, 2011315 views8 comments
Canon EOS REBEL T2i
EF-S55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS
10/8/2011 – 11:18:35 AM on an overcast and rainy day
1/1600 sec
Aperture priority
f/5.6
ISO 400
Handheld
Harris Neck NWR, Darien, GA
Raw, LR3, CS5

I didn't think these were close-up enough for this gallery so I posted one in Wildlife, but then I saw Luke had posted a similar image here so I chose another image and processed it a little differently to post here.

Comments and suggestions are desired and appreciated.

Thank you!

An amazing photo, Barbara. For hand held and at F5.6 you achieved wonderful DOF. It's great to see you mastering that macro lens of yours. Keep em coming our advancing member.

Beautiful clarity. I really like the perch and your 3/4 frontal pov. The butterfly really stands out. Very nice work

Good clear shot of the butterfly, Barbara. Especially good for handholding. I think I would have cropped out the bottom light layer up to the bottom of the flower and maybe some off the right to help highlight the BF and flower. Then it certainly would classify as a close-up/macro shot. Great color combo and nice diffused BG.

Hey Barb, I think you did a good job of getting focus on the B-fly and the flower while blurring out the BG. If this was mine, I would crop off the right and left side and make it a vertical comp. I think in the square crop you have a little more background then you need. If you have the Nik Software Viveza, I would lighten up the underside of the wing on the left side.

I love it just how you've posted it. The colors of the fritilary and the gayfeather works beautifully together. Excellent details. A truly lovely image.

I agree with Mike's crop suggestion, but otherwise it looks great as posted. Quite a colorful subject!
