I say dry ground because this only blooms late in the summer when the ground out under the madrones it bone dry. After searching for significant time trying to ID this flower I *think* it may be an aster but am quite unsure of even that.

flash off
studio 5500k lamps, right and left, slightly above bloom
ISO200
manual focus

Thanks for anu comments or critiques.

I too think this is an Aster  - something like a White Wood Aster. I like that pin wheel effect characteristic of Asters and similar flower. Nice looking background as well.

Nice shot! I like the colors and that smooth bg, but wish for a little more dof...otherwise, great!

I like the pov and placement in the frame Charlie. I might like a bit more dof but I'm not sure about that. It's a good looking image for my tastes as posted.

Thanks all. And I'll say, that I'd like a little more DOF too, but didn't do the necessary things to get it. :frown:

To be honest Charlie, this one is just not working for me. I think that there is just not enough going on to hold my interest.

Love this type of subject, Charlie - it ought not to be photogenic but, oh yes, it is ! Beautifully judged dof and perfect lighting and composition make for a fine image in my view.

I, like Ram, thought this looked just like a windmill. Nice comp, blurred BG and center focus. All the flower in focus would have been nice but also fine as is.

I like the image a lot. The background really sets off the flower. I took some images of a flower that looks just like this in the center, but it did not have and white petals. I never have found out what it is.

There are a lot of different aster types. Ram feels it might be a wood aster and possibly so, I'm more inclined toward Bushy aster or Calico aster.

A beauty for simplicity: one element, two colors, tho plane, all perfectly clean. I love this photo, Charlie.
Take care.

As much as I would like to agree with you, Ram and Bill, I'm still more inclined to the Calico Aster.

But to all, I really appreciate your comments and critiques, even those which aren't impressed.
