I have always found these animals to be elusive, outside of the "pets" that live in some lodges.

I was quite surprised to get this opportunity of a relatively open sighting

Taken on Rhino Island, Matusadona National Park, Zimbabwe, 17th September 2011.

EOS 1D MkIV

500mm F4 IS hand-held from open game viewing vehicle

F5.6, ISO 800, 1/1259

I like the detail and pose of the animal. The (to me) excessive amount of OOF shrubbery on the LHS is a minus, easily removed by cropping to 7/8 or even square.

Philip,

I know what you mean but shrubbery is inevitable, I will take a look at your crop suggestions

Hi Ken,

I haven't seen too many shots of these - so nice to see this posted here. While I see what Phil is saying about the out-of-focus vegetation, it sounds to me (based on your commentary) that the most common way these are seen is in the heavy vegetation, so portraying it this way (with the extra vegetation) adds some documentary value to the image.

BTW - good job on the hand-holding the 500mm - the bushbuck is really quite sharp!

Cheers...

Brad
