seal with gulls

This is another picture from our trip to Vancouver Island this summer. After finding some orcas we went to a spot that was good for seals and sea lions and found a bunch! This is one of my first pictures from there...this guy was all alone with a whole bunch of seagulls around him. I liked the way he looked up and posed for a second! I also like the look of all the gulls around him and the way the rocks look (from all the gulls!).

This is a pretty big crop but we couldn't get closer because the waves started getting too high.

My dad and I chose this crop because of some distracting stuff below him on the rocks and the way it looks with all the gulls.

The sky is that colour because there was a heavy fog rolling in.

Thank you for looking!

I think this is an especially interesting capture and I like your choice of framing. The blue of the shadows adds an interesting moodiness and I like it for the reasons you described. Good eye!

The seal almost looks lost among all the birds. Gives an humours tuch to the image. Like it.

The pano format suites this fine. I guess it might be impossible, but if you could have avoided cutting the gulls on the left in half that would have been great :-)
The light looks a bit hard to work with but you have still made a good job of it. If the highlights could be toned down a tad (especially on the seal) I think that would help.

Thanks for sharing.
