Hello.

Another one from Acadia NP; it seems quite a few of us on NPN headed there this October. I was there from Oct. 13-19. This year in general the foliage colours haven't been spectacular in the Northeastern U.S. and here in Eastern Canada except in patches; however, Acadia National Park has such a variety of landscape and subjects to shoot, in a relatively small area, that you'll always find something to photograph: Hills, woods, streams, ponds, small fishing villages, a tourist town, a sandy beach, cliffs, islands, and, of course, the ocean... It's a trip I'd highly recommend.

What I don't recommend is walking carelessly along the shore on the cobblestones, as I did on the day prior to me taking this shot. I went there in mid-day on a reconnaissance mission, and stepped on one large stone with some inclination and a significant amount of black-coloured algae or some other slippery organism. I believe it was the larger stone in the foreground of this photo. I fell heavily, but luckily I landed on my elbow and hip; it was a bit painful for a day, but there was no serious injury. I'm sure none of you will be as naive as I was, but I felt a word of caution was in order.

Anyway this made me more eager to go back to that place the following morning and try to make the "reconnaissance fall" worthwhile.

The photo was taken 13 min. before sunrise.

One shot.
Canon 24-70L @24mm, f/16, ISO 200
15 sec. exposure with the help of a vari-ND filter to give the foamy effect on the water.
Processed in Adobe Camera Raw and PS3.

Thanks in advance for looking and for your feedback.

Joe

Bottom half. :toast: Love the shapes, textures, and warm highlights. Top half: :frown: Blown out sky, too-purple clouds.

Nice color, Joe. And a good, slow exposure to "mystify" the water. Might have been a time and place to use a split ND filter set right at the horizon. You are sure right about those rocks. Took me nearly 1/2 hour to cross Monument Cove before sunrise.

Thanks for the comments, well received. I found another, darker, shot I had taken four minutes earlier, with f/13 and 20sec., everything else being the same, including the framing. I blended the two together, the sky from the earlier one. It unfortunately had two large splashes of water; I remember having to clean the lens before taking the second shot.

There are some processing errors in this one, I'm not good at blending or cloning and spot removal, but it's a proof of concept. I hope you enjoy this one better.

Thanks again for your feedback.

Second is much better for the reasons Tony noted. :toast:
