Midnight Autumn

The mid-day light was terrible when I shot this but I like the color palette enought that I tried to salvage it with NIK Color Efex Pro's Midnight Filter. I didn't like it at first but after looking a few times I think I'm starting to. Are the large dark areas too much? I could fill them in with Content-Aware Fill......since I've taken it this far. Check out the larger version. Thanks for looking.

Cool shot Bruce! Dark surroundings makes the color glow and rise out of the photo. A lot of leaves...a jungle of shapes and colors!

Its just too dark overall for me, but i like the subject/comp. A lighter frame would help

Bruce: The larger version must be viewed to appreciate this. Besides showing the detail better the light framing BG helps to mitigate the darkness and makes the colors richer IMO. You can edit the frame BG if you choose to. Well seen and superbly captured. >=))>

Bruce: Changing the frame helps the small presentation for sure. I kind of like the dark areas and think I would leave them as is. >=))>

The large has to be viewed in my opinion. It looks like a wave of color.

Bruce:
Beautiful colors! I wish for some details in the dark areas and wonder if some selective burning would bring them out. Still a very engaging image as it is.

Yes, it is dark, Bruce, but personally I like the sombre mood which results. There's also such a lovely swing to the red leaves that gives the eye a way of drawing all the elements together - I like it !!

Pretty dramatic. The filter gives the leaves a late afternoon/evening look that has that special glow. I think the negative space makes for an interesting comp. Nice work to save this one, Bruce.
