the Loner
by David Murphy
The image was taken at the Salmon River area of northwest Tasmania, within a region known as the Tarkine. After a prolonged bushbash, I stumbled onto this stand of forest gums swathed in an early morning mist. This one fellow was all alone in the mist, so I attempted to capture him with a 200mm lens on a tripod on quite spongy undergrowth. It was a fantastic sight....he was surrounded by hundreds of fellow gums in all their tall and green glory. The area was in the midst of a huge logging operation, so it is possible that none of these lovely trees exist now....and have been turned into woodchips or whatever. Thankfully there are large tracts of similar forests protected under the World Heritage covenances.

7 commentsI think if you crop a tiny bit from the bottom to eliminate that first band of grass, this floating effect gets stronger.
I love the mood here; a very strong image David. It would possibly make a great B&W as well.
But it's still a cool shot, especially if you crop the bottom as suggested!
