The Stand Off

It's that time of year again where the early morning's are getting frosty. I found this spot about 20 mins before sunrise. The surrounding trees and angle of the sun allowed for some interesting light and shadow play.

Canon 5D, 70-200L @ 100mm, 3 image blend for D.O.F, 1 exposure.

That's a very cool shot and I love the transition from the cold to the warm tones.

The layers and textures here are nice, Kyle. As you mention the lighting works very well here as it really sets the tree apart from the background. The mist rising from the pond / creek adds a nice touch as well.

Great find and well composed, Kyle! Strong FG subject and well lit
tree are superb. I also like the touch of mist/fog.

Perfection Kyle. The mixture of cold frost and warm lighting is special, and the composition is very strong.

Kyle, your composition with the delicate lighting of the forground elements counteracting the main subject is really amazing for me. This image has great impact on me, thanks for sharing.

Like Guy said, fantastic in every respect Kyle! That light is just killer on the aspen of course, but especially on those foreground cat tails. And that frost is just the icing on the cake! This will make an excellent wall hanger! :toast: :toast:

This is a fantastic capture of the light and frost Kyle. We are also getting frost in the morning here in Cambridge, Ontario.
Happy shooting.

maybe simple and commonplace location, but this is the beauty of photography. The light and frost make this into a magical scene and image. :toast:

The lighting and the foreground detail are sweet. Would love to see this larger for the foreground detail.
