Cathedral View

After numerous trips the past few years to Sedona in hopes of a sunset over Cathedral Rock near Red Rock Crossing, I finally got an image that I think will work. This was from last evening as the recent storm was clearing to the east. Not a blazing sunset, but I think the more subdued colors let the red rock stand out. Single image, double processsed for the sky to show color and contrast.
Nikon D90, Nikon 16-35 @ 19mm f/8, ISO 200. I had bracketed exposures and focal points, but I think this single frame caught it all.

All suggestions and nits are welcome. A larger view is provided.

Very nice! I agree with your assessment completely. The red and the green compliment and complement each other well, and the soft light and clouds work well also. The cascade in the foreground is an appealing element too. Well done!

Very nice Doug. You composed this well, the colors look great, and I really like the stream.

Really nice! I think you are right that you caught it all in this frame. Great comp and wonderful color. The water forground works so well here too. Nice work Doug.

Very well composed, Doug, and i also like the relatively subtle colors in the sky. Minor nit--wish there were a little less highlite streaks in the water--the exposure is good but the streaks kind of pull my attention away from the stuff in back. Maybe some CP work might have been useful. Great shot regardless!

I agree with Stan. This is a lovely composition, but it would have been over the top for color with a CPL, as well as taking the glare off the water.

I have the 16-35. I bit the bullet recently for a B & W CPL (expensive!). I hope it will be worth it. :toast:

Thanks for the comments.
Stan and Phil, appreciate the candid suggestions. The whitish streaks are from white foam lines. I tried a cpl to reduce glare especially on the wet foreground rock, but it cut the reflected color from Cathedral Rock also. Might resort to the the burn tool later.

Great light on Cathedral. I've never successfully photographed this thing at sunset and I've tried nine times...Never a single cloud every trip. Love the greens in the trees. Have the leaves all passed peak here? Anyways. I could see this as a vertical and a slightly longer exposure, but thats just personal preference and taste. Still like it as is.

I like this a lot, Doug. The composition works well and I like how you have framed Cathedral Rock. I agree that the subtle light compliments the rock formation and doesn't compete for the viewer's attention.
