Tiger in water

As President of the Indian Society of Organ Transplantation (ISOT), I had to conduct the Society's annual conference in New Delhi last month. The only national park open from Oct 1st was Ranthambhore, about 7 hours away by road, some stretches of which were abysmal. I saw tigers on four occasions, one of which was this, which lasted over 1 hour! This was a big male, named T24, and he was lying in a pool in deep shade, to escape the early October heat. There must have been over ten vehicles crowded with over-excited, jabbering tourists, but, except for some rare instances when he looked up towards us, he seemed to take all the commotion in his stride.
Location: Ranthambhore NP, Rajasthan, India
Date: Oct 2011
Equip: Canon 7D, Canon 500 f4 with 1.4 TC
Specs: ISO 640, f5.6, 1/50s, beanbag on vehicle

Thank you for taking the time out to look, and for your comments/critiques.

Lovely setting here Doc, I would love to see the right bottom branch cloned out. I have been witness to this crowding when sighting big cats, I hope people learn forest etiquette and make the whole experience much more soothing.

Hi Ajit, when viewing this lovely calm setting it is hard to believe there were more than 10 vehicles with noisy tourists at this pool!
I like how you processed this and that tiger really pops out. I think it would enhance the composition if you cropped a bit off the right; just enough to get rid of the OOF stuff in the BRC. To maintain the aspect ratio you could even crop a liver off the top as well. The few grasses coming in from the right are a pity, but I suppose it was impossible to move a bit with so many other vehicles there

Cool image, nicely done !
I may prefer to darken and unsharpen the twig over the Tiger.

Wow, awesome pose and capture Ajit! My only nit is the material in the LRC, don't know if you can clone it out. ?

Not being a cloner, I'd probably just crop in tighter to lose the stuff in the right corner. I do like the setting quite a bit. That fur color pops quite nicely against the browns and greens. Would love to go there some day.

A number of viewers have suggested that the oof LRC grass be removed. I am reposting this on your request. How does this image look?

Ajit,

Just as magical

I am rather blind when it comes to "distractions", I am afraid I concentrate on the subject

The repost shows well how a small change can make an image look so much better. :toast:

I suppose I prefer the re-post but honestly I didn't really notice the OOF stuff in the lower right. Fantastic photo - I love how the tiger really pops in this image. :toast:

Ajit this is a beautiul shot and I must say you are a lucky man. I just returned from my holiday in Rajasthan and i had visited Ranthambore as well. We made two visits in the park. In the morning I was given Zone 3 and in the evening zone 6. Unfortunately we were not able to see any tiger. We did see a lot of other animals and birds but no tiger.... Sad. I plan to go again during April next year as the guides told me that April is the best time to see the tigers as they are around the lakes all day long...Lets see.
