Fire Wave Abstract

This image is owes a lot to my friends. Steffen and Isa Synnatschke were the first to take me here and they publicized the place in their eGuide. I was photographing with Sean Bagshaw this evening, and he's the one who chose this place for sunset. Good friend Daniel Anderson, who just happened to be in the vicinity, was also here this evening, and I joined him from this vantage point, though I don't know what he was composing. So in the end, I probably wouldn't have taken this image on my own, and certainly appreciate the folks that got me here.

Your thoughts and suggestions would, as always, be appreciated.

Definitely like the colors and swirling texture and patterns of the rocks. The way the lines flow and counteract from top to bottom keeps my eyes wandering. Looks like a great place for these types of shots.

This one really messes with the mind, Tony. It has an other worldly feel that is both inviting and forbidding at the same time.

Tony, I admire your play with shapes and shades. Your image is full of flow and dynamics to my eye, and you perfectly managed to keep my attention within the composition. Great work in my opinion.

Very nice opposing lines and contrasting texture details. The color and striping aint too bad either!!!

Coincidentally, I met your friends at Bandon Beach a few weeks ago. Isa walked out onto the beach at twilight, I was the only other person there. Then, she was checking in at the same hotel we were staying at. Ran into them again at Seal Rocks, and again in Lincoln City, where they were at the same hotel as us once more. Anyway, NPN came up and she talked about you right away. I looked over their website, it's pretty nice, and extensive. They've been more places in the US than I have!!!!!!!!!

Excellent abstract Tony. I read your new journal entry before seeing the image here. Appreciate the behind stage discussion of how you processed the image. Based on other you don't want to study this image and then head down a flight of stairs.
As an abstract many images come to mind and as I look at it I see a bowl of brownies being stirred up.

Beautiful lines and colors. The wave is really nice but it's the fg with their regularly spaced laminations that hold my eyes. Fascinating

Nice work as always Tony. Even though it is an abstract and depth is really not an issue it seems flat to me for some reason. Maybe its due to the monochromatic colors.

Neat collection of lines and colors. The hint of optical illusion is also nice as I'm not completely sure whether this is a fairly flat surface of looking down a ridge into a deep channel in the stone.

Tremendous image, Tony. One gets the idea that you are looking down into a vortex of stone. The multitude of layers in the stone and the incredible color make this simply exquisite. Thanks for the link to the Photoshop layers; very helpful in understanding your approach, not to mention enlightening. Your imagery and your desire to share are humbling.

I enjoy the shapes and colors, but its hard for me to put this all together and imagine the scene. its fine as an abstract, but I would prefer more of the environmental context.

The opposing curves really make this a very striking composition. Your management of the light has helped the highlights to really shine in here. I am also enjoying the warm glow throughout the frame.

really like this one Tony, the different shape & layers make this special :)

by the way .. the Sony NEX-5N simply is a killer camera with a high image quality in a tiny body  , but the big problem is the limitation of the lenses by Sony, on the other hand you can use different lenses from other manufacture via adapter but only manual focus, just try with Leica lenses

A wonderful red rock country abstract, Tony! Well seen with the swirls at the bottom
counter balanced with the swirls at the top. Also good textural detail and great lines.

Tony, you took a nice perpsective at the Fire Wave. I like the opposing semi-circular lines and textures. I found Synnatschke's eguide to be invaluable for my visit to VOF earlier this year.
