Fish X-ray

by Tonia Graves

Gallery: WildlifePosted November 20, 2011193 views7 comments
This image was created by first taking an x-ray of the fish (White Pomfret), having the film printed out, then photographing the 14 X 17" film on a lightbox. Background darkened in PSE9.
Nikon D5100 w/ Nikon Micro 200mm lens.

Very nice. Like the creativity and the view of the bone structure.

I don't know what to comment . This is interesting and it is a natural object. But the reason I love nature photography is it gets me out in to nature. This isn't really my bag. I am not trying to be negative, just my taste.

It's interesting in that it reminds me of those photos taken of deep sea fish from deep submersibles. But I feel Rich's pain--i think the problem is it looks like a technical exercise more than a nature photo.

This makes an interesting image and it would be fun to see more. The process is so different (and, as mentioned, removed from the outdoor nature experience) that it is difficult to offer constructive feedback. I like the mysterious end effect.

Well done capturing the fine detail in the bones, Tonia. The previous comments resonate with me, even as I explore this technique myself. Gary Y. has been able to elevate his flower images to works of art; I struggle with that. I think these kinds of images will work better in the Macro and Flora galleries, where studio work is more common.

Excellent choice of subject for this type of imagery, lots of little bones. Might use a bit more space in front of the fish, for him to swim into - figuratively speaking of course, although it does look like he is swimming in a deep dark ocean. Nice radiograph! :toast:
