Sugar Land TX November 2011. My backyard.

D3 ISO 640. 500/4 with 1.4x tc. f13 1/640s -0.7ev. Gitzo with Wimberly head.

2 of these have visited my yard for a couple of months the last 2 years. Their MO is to come at dusk, spend most of the time of the ground, eat once and not return until the next day. That has made a very frustrating situation for me. They also twitch a lot and every image until now has been blurred. I guess this was my day.

Your patience has been well rewarded once again Angela, absolutely delightful capture; tack sharp and beautiful subject, excellent composition and DOF, as well as a unique and interesting perch to boot. Thanks for sharing :^)

"Fun with the 500!"
Nice! Great bird in a good pose, bright eye, great BG. I'd lose that little bit of moss below the bird's tail..

Well, you have them now ! (Or this one at least). Like the colors of the bird matching the bark - pleasant shot ! Cheers, Hans

I quietly chuckled to myself when I read your description of their frustratingly difficult behavior. Luckily you seemed to have been at the right place at the right time though. I love the way the hollowed out old stump cradles the little brown bird. Nice detail and color. The background is a bit "green", but it works! :toast:

The green part wasn't a set up, Gary. I live on a federal wetlands reserve. It's behind my house and in Houston. It was 76° today. on the other hand we're not expecting to enjoy snow all season :-)

Angela, I really like the setting here. You got a nice pose from the bird with terrific eye contact and nice sharpness on the face. You're obviously figuring out the 500. .

Love the perch with the holes almost as much as the Wren. The position of the bird on tree stump is excellent. The larger view shows how sharp the image is. Excellent image Angela.

The colors and texture of the perch work really well with the tack sharp wren. Nice work.
