African Rail

A very elusive bird of the Railard family, this is the Afican Rail. I shot this image in the West Coast National Park in South Africa. It was overcast and raining so the colors didn't come through as I would have liked, but the rain drops add another dimension.

Canon 1D MK IV
Canon 500mm f/4
1/800
F/8.0
ISO 640

Thanks for looking and your comments.

Neal, I think you handled the conditions very well and I agree the rain drops are a plus. Good image, I enjoy it a lot.

I have only seen one of these in eleven trips to Africa, and that was in dense vegetation, so to get one out in the open like this is great. I like the pose here, and the water drops are a bonus.

Nice job in getting this, the larger image has nice feather detail and I like the raindrops and pose, a very interesting looking bird with the orange feet and red beak. Well done.

A Rail in the open, raindrops, and in stride - wonderful! I might be tempted to add a tad more saturation........
