A Round Sunrise

I spent many pleasant hours over Thanksgiving exploring the results of Rob Graham's rectangular to polar coordinate transformation after he pointed me to a web description. This is originally a Paradise Valley sunrise and I thought it would make a fun "celestial bookend" for Rob's Twisted Sunset shot from last week.

Wild, Mark. I like the nested circles and painterly look to the image. It looks like you took my info and really ran with it. These results are unlike anything I have come up with. Would you mind posting your starting image?

Very interesting effect Mark. Reminds me of the top of a marquetry table in the court of Louis XIVth of France.

Rob, here's the original, but I don't expect that it will be much help.

Here's the image that I constructed using various pieces from the top half of the original along with some warping. This is what gets the rectangular to polar coordinate transformation to produce the original post (although I'm pretty sure that some of the layering is different). This is what can happen when your camera's in the shop for 6 weeks....so don't drop your camera.

Nice patterns and beautiful colors. Thanks for posting the original and second image. It's interesting to see where this image came from.

Thanks for posting the originals. You took compositing parts of the original image much farther than I have tried. Very creative and again, well done.

This has a very cool metallic feel. It reminds me of a hub cap or a very exotic plate. :toast:
