Orange Arrangement

This is a re-do of my shot I took a few years back. For those who don't know, this is the ol iconic Mt Hood from Trillium Lake shot. I took the pilgrimage from my home at least 15 times in one year to get an image from here that I am happy with. The sky was CRAZY this night! The orange was so intense that it lit the faces of the group of people that had gathered with me here at lake's edge to take in the spectacle.

Really nice use of the lines and comp. Kinda wish there was more space b/t the clouds reflection and the grass on the right but a nit. Great light and capture

This cloud is gorgeous. The processing looks great, too. Good composition.

Crazy is right. What a sky! I am undecided about the trees on the right. They balance with the grasses, but seem to dominate the image a bit. Great sky and reflection.

I love the wild color in the sky along with the reflection, Rick. I don't know if there was anything you could have done differently, but it seems a little heavy on the right side with the trees. Just a thought.

Awesome colors in the sky and great reflection, Rick. I'd have preferred more space on the right without trees, but I still like it. :toast:

That is one amazing cloud and a beautifully composed scene. Light-wise, it feels a bit too much contrast with some detail lost in the darks.

That awesome sky with that lenticular forming under that sweeping cloud formation makes this really stand out Rick! A little more detail in the darks as Tony mentioned would be nice.

Great sky, but unsure about the dark trees on the right. I'm a big fan of dark, moody images but those guys are just a tad dominating.....especially their darker reflection. Outside of that..... very nice image.

That crazy sky hits this out of the park. The 50/50 composition works very well here.

15 times…? Your work has paid off, nice one. I like it all, especially the clean feel. It looks like there was some wind out on the lake. Your little protected area really paid off!

Your patience and multiple trips really paid off for you Rick. I'd like to see it without the darks so dark. The trees on the right seem to dominate a bit more than I'd like, but otherwise fantastic!

Rick,

Your perserverance has certainly paid off! What a powerful and awesome cloud/sky. Hard to go wrong here and I wouldn't think of changing anything.... ;-) Even the trees on the right have enough detail and I think all is balanced very nicely top to bottom. What a great moment - glad you were there to capture it.

Wonderful perspective on Trillium and Hood. Like the way the clouds and reflection hug the treeline and shore.

CRAZY does not even begin to say it here Rick. Wow! A great image and the reflection is excellent. A tad heavy on the right side, but it is not an issue with an image this beautiful.

Mind numbing moment at Trillium! I wish I could have seen it!

Aside form the tones being a little off (mainly in the blacks) a great shot. :toast:

Spectacular light, but the curve of the clouds and lenticular swirls really put this over the top for me! Fantastic work! :toast:

Great comp...but yeah the blacks are pretty dark and the mountain looks off a bit. I do like reflection at the top of the water,(above the mountain reflection), that adds quite a bit.

Stunning. Well worth the many trips to this location. You managed to keep the foreground exposure and sky naturally balanced.
