I thought I'd keep with the squirrel theme and post a recent shot I took of a fox squirrel.

Certainly not an exotic subject (at least around here) but I was attempting just a simple portrait style shot of this squirrel. I like the position and color of the tail, but disappointed the tail isn't more in focus. I'd like to know if this is too tight of a crop.

Taken with a Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi
75-300mm lens
ISO 400
f/5.6
1/250

Photo taken at Michigan State University Crop and Soil Science Research Fields.

Ben, I like this photo. Squirrels are one of my favorite subjects and this is a neat photo. IMHO the crop is just right. The exposure seems fine and you have good detail. I don't see the not sharp tail as a problem. Thanks for sharing.

I like the pose and POV here, Ben...but think your critical focus was on the branch as the face is just a tad soft here? I don't mind shallow DOF but the face/eyes need to be sharp in those cases.
The tail also seems to have some funny magenta glow around the edges?
Sorry for being "blunt"...

Ben: I like this! Great pose, love the detail in the hands and branch, but noticed the dof didn't quite make it to bring the face in equally sharp focus. I also really like the composition and the curl of the tail is a bonus. Welcome to NPN by the way!
