Big Sky

Girraween National Park, Queensland.

I've finally completed my first series of b&w images from my trip to Girraween last October. It's taken a while for me to find the tone and mood for these images I had envisioned, both in terms of processing and image selection, but I finally feel they have found their life and reflect the mood I was after.

Many thanks for your c&c.

Nikon D80, 18-200 lens @30mm, f/16, 2 image blend for sky & land.

I am liking the stormy mood with the threatening sky and somewhat stark foreground. I wish I could see a bigger version and get see detail.

I like the processing here. Great mood and good b/w conversion. I would crop a bit from the top just above the bright cloud.

Like the mood you've created here with your conversion. My only suggestion is to lighten the land portion just a little bit, at least on my monitor it appears a bit dark. The sky seems right on.

I'm really liking this, David. I think your b/w conversion looks really good along with the rest of your processing. The stormy looking sky gives this a very moody feel. Nice work!

This is a beauty. Wonderful tones in this. I might crop some off the top so you wouldn't have so much negative space there, but that's the only nit I can think of. Really nice choice for B&W.

David,
That is a spectacular image, nicely seen - captured and processed...
It will make a wonderful large print...

David,

Great job with the b&w presentation. The sky is dramatic and I think fits the landscape too. In fact this gives me a little "Jurasic" impression. I also like the small, but effective edge treatment.

Agree with Harley, bigger is probably needed to get the full effect of this image.

Thank you for the feedback, guys. I will definitely post a large version for my next image... sorry I didn't with this one!

Re the crop, I tossed back and forth between a cropped sky for this image, but in the end settled on this one as I really liked the black cloud framing the top and it added to the dark, stormy mood. Will revisit it and have another go... thanks!
