Flat Laurel Creek

This is a cascade on Flat Laurel Creek near Graveyard Fields (Mt. Pisgah) in western North Carolina. Two shots - one for the foreground & high ISO to freeze the berries on a windy day. The remainder at standard ISO. 5DII, 16-35mm 2.8, circular polarizer .

First shot for waterfalls - F18, 0.6 sec, ISO 200
Second shot for berries - F16, 1/5 sec, ISO 800

Larger version available - had to compress it more so it lost a bit in the detail.

Pretty cool, Wick--i love the combo of the red berries and bluish falls! To be super picky, it looks like the coolest part of the falls are blocked by that one rock, but maybe not... Anyhow--nice job, looks good

I like the low perspective here that includes the top of the falls, adds a nice depth to the image. I also like the angles of the rock and water flow. Great technique and wonderful image.

Wick,

Nice to see a post from you. I think it's been a while.

I really like this even though the back and forth composition (50/50 between falls and plants) I think this works out very well and I too like the color contrast between the two elements. I might consider desaturating the blues a little bit though, but that's a personal choice. I think what's working here is that overhanging rock that I think works to tie the two halves of the image together. Well seen!

Light looks good. I find the scene a bit chaotic, but I enjoy figuring it out. Nice DOF with the focus.
