The good old Warthog, a great character in terms of watching and to photograph in my book. Again, some people may wish for more space below for the 'virtual feet,' but for me it's all about the face and the character of this animal.

I was about to write "beautiful photo!" but I'm not sure beautiful is the right word! Certainly an interesting and captivating photo though! Extremely sharp and the tight crop works for me!

Stephen, the virtual feet issue does not bother me at all. You had just the right light, exposure, camera equipment and knowledge to capture every bit of detail in this warthog's amazing face. What a terrific image! :toast:

Always tough to make compelling images of these guys, Steve...
I think this is nice. Love the golden hues around him, makes him stand out and adds some vibrance to the overall image.
I hear you about the "feet"...see my recent image about the "tail"

Hi Steve,

I quite like this - image detail, colours, and your chosen depth of field all work together here to produce a very pleasing image. To me this is pretty much a portrait, and the missing feet don't bother me in the slightest. In a perfect world it would be nice if a few of those pieces of grass that overlap the snout/tusks weren't there, but they sure aren't a major problem (and nor would I advocate cloning them out).

Cheers...thanks for sharing this...

Steve, I couldn't agree more with your statement about these guys and the face. I of course have only seen them in the zoo, but always love the texture and hair on their face...so this works REALLY well for my taste. Awesome detail in the face and mezmorizing to look at. :toast:

Thanks guys, interesting feedback.

Morkel I think it depends upon the image, I looked at your Cheetah and as it's 98% in frame the clipped tail is a bummer, but not a deal breaker, however if the tail was in, then for me it's a cracker, but we all have different ideas and that's what makes each image different. As my is quite tightly cropped hoping for more focus on the face, the virtual feet bit IMHO isn't a big issue.

Kurt sometimes we get swayed by the classic or the more beautiful animals of Africa to photograph, but occasionally it's nice to shoot a variety and I have to say, these guys were really fun to photograph and allowing the opportunity to be a bit more creative in how we shoot, which I will post at some point, but I will prefix it by saying it could be a marmite image.

Thanks again guys.
