With a touch of snow, a little fog and some big bluestem grass this has the look of a November day. However, this was taken in late December and normally the grass would be well below the snow.

Lovely shot! I like how the grass matches the leaves...and the contrast with the snow and tree is wonderful!

Hey Tom, This is wonderful...I love it! I agree with you on the November look, same thing here. I think your large version is just awesome to look at. I like the combination of the foreground grass and the remaining oak leaves with the touch of snow. The processing and detail look fantastic. It really paid to get out and capture this one! Cheers & Happy New Year!

That orange grass seems a little too saturated to me. However it's still a very nice image.

This is a great composition. The orange does seem a little over saturated but the the contrast and details are great. Lots of character in that tree and the touch of snow is just right.

Thanks for the comments so far. I never know how these images are going to look on the web, hence the over saturated grasses. Here is a revised version and hopefully the grass will not be so saturated.

Yep, you nailed it on the second version. Beautiful textures and tones in this. You really captured the mood of early winter as the last leaves of autumn fall to the ground.

Tom, I know how those grasses look this time of year so didn't think to much about it in your original post..pretty close. But I do agree that the repost looks even better! Think you got it just right now.

I like this a lot, Tom. Love the grass and leaf color against the starkness of winter.

Tom,

Fabulous! I love how you've filled the frame with the main tree. And the supporting elements of color in the grass and leaves as well as the snow and hint of bg reds really complete this image. No nits or suggestions. Great work.

A beautiful image, Tom. Fabulous comp and color. The less saturated color of the repost enhances the delicate mood. Great shot.

Love this. What a strong comp and the contrast between warm grass and cool atmosphere enhances everything.

The combination of warm and cool really works well in this appropriately titled image. That tree has great character and this closed comp makes it stand out IMO. The re-post does seem somewhat more natural with less orange intensity.

Tom, your composition based on these diverse layers works extremely well for me, you show this tree and the overall atmosphere at its best in my opinion. Viewing on my monitor, the second version reveals even more details in the foreground grasses, maybe you did also some work on sharpening for the web? A very appealing image to my eye that I really enjoy.

Happy new year!
