Anothing boring pool shot
Even dullish birds can beat the exotic ones at times for variety of suble colour.
D7000 Sigma 100-300mm
800 ISO 125th sec @f 7.1
Contrast and sharpening down in camera.
ev down 1
Crop from horizontal.

I like the head turn John. All the colors work well together.

I agree with Ron on the colors and I like the low angle you employed. Far from a boring image John, I think this works quite well.

Thanks Charles.
When I say "boring " I suppose its because there is so much exotic stuff around that these sort of pics look mundane. I can't travel and don't get around that much so I suppose I find them a bit "samey"
When you,ve sat in pool hides for over 40 years you get the sense that theres not much else going to show up . !!!
Hence the "boring " .
glad you like it anyway.
Cheers

a nice pose and comp, John. I would definitely do some noise reduction on the background. might try a bit more sharpening on the head. nothing wrong with seeing and showing the common birds.

In agree Brian- the D7000 is not that good in dark conditions at 800 ISO in spite of what the reviews say. Also, dropping the sharpness in camera to lessen the noise efect does give a softer image. I do tend to treat my pics as natural history records rather than photos so I must get around to some more processing !!- for this site anyway
Thanks

Here's one with as suggested, noise reduction and sharpening. See what you think.

John, You are a master with these (what I call) fall colors. Just beautiful and fun. I do so enjoy your posts. As far as the repost, I kind of like the first. Maybe something in the middle of the two.

I like it! Frankly sometimes I get really bored by all the exotic stuff...it is so popular it has become cliche in my opinion.

Really like the subtleties of this shot, the warm colors and the nice detail and the pose. I like the repost but maybe a little less sharpening on the head of the bird would be to my tastes

Great head nod and I really like the complimentary color scheme John.
I agree, all the subtle shades of color make this an attractive image.
