Please see the large version. Compression is taking its toll on the small.

This is excellent. I like the detail and the graphic elements of this image. The dark moodiness of the exposure leaves a little mystery to the image. Maybe this has something to do with your use of film for this image? In the digital age, everyone has become so concerned with HDR and showing every detail. People have forgotten that shadows matter. We see naturally with shadows. They can be used appropriately like every other photographic element and add a lot to the emotion of an image.

I also like that this image has the feel of a black and white image. The copper tones of the wood are subtle enough that they don't overwhelm the image and add significant depth. Nice work!

This is fantastic Harley! I just love the flowing curves of the wood, and the soft subtle lighting really adds to this, IMO. Very well seen and executed. The large version is especially compelling. Beautiful intimate portrait from a sacred place! :toast:

The darker shadow area above and below give this a very 3D effect. The orange swirls bring my eye through this. Way cool. :toast:

Wow! Incredible shapes and textures Harley. I do wish the top right corner had a little more room for that upper edge of the trunk. Otherwise really nice.

Even the thumbnail made me catch my breath but I was born with sawdust in my veins. this is absolutely beautiful. Old wood has so much character and allure, it's hard to beat as a subject. I find the curved lines here particularly appealing.

Harley,

From out of nowhere! Where have you been hiding this gem? Outstanding image my friend. I couldn't even begin to guess what it was from the thumbnail; a water buffalo head/horn, some tribal art? Had no clue.

Love the darkness surrounding this Bristlecone abstract. Wow! You need to print this. Awesome

Beautiful isolation of texture and shape here, Harley. The splashes of red through the otherwise grey wood is wonderful. A very nicely designed image!

This is great Harley, as others have said the color, detail and texture are very compelling. I might darken the background details in the upper left and lower right corners a tad to keep the eye on the tree more.
