First Light

Got this image a few weeks back the same day Itook my spill just a few minutes before this shot. Clouds blocked the sun for most of the first hour then I was blessed with a few minutes of break thru light and a glorious glow. This guy got so close to me in the water that I clipped the tail end. So I cropped to about mid body. Does this work? By the way how does my color management look?

Canon 1DMIII 300 mm 2.8 w 2x
ISO1000 f8@1/250 tripod in the water
NR and selective sharpening cropped to about 70% of original

I think the composition works the way you did it, & I love the glow of the sunrise! My favorite part by far is the drop of water falling from it's beak! Very nice!

Overall colors seems a little on the warm side on my monitor, which isn't necessarily bad if that's what you saw. Comp works for me.

Beautiful light on this Loon, Cheryl. Very nice detail. I think your comp works well although I think I would be tempted to give it just a tad bit more room on the right if you have it. The water dripping from the bill is awesome. Color looks good to me. This is what I would expect from early morning light.

I do like the warm "glow" & the color looks about right to me with this kind of early light.
You note explains this comp, and considering how close this was it works for me..
Although to be honest, I'm still on the fence..You know, sort of half in, half out

Nice warm light and the droplet is a fine added bonus, Cheryl. The comp works but I wonder if a crop closer around the bird's head and neck would be better. I know it would mean a large crop but maybe the detail is there to withstand it.
