Blue Jay

Cyanocitta cristata

Birding has been extremely slow around here lately, but I was happy to capture this Blue Jay. I find them extremely wary and tough to photograph. I would have preferred a raised crest, but over all I liked this.

Please view larger version for detail.

1D Mk IV, 500mm f4L IS +1.4 tc
1/1250, f8, ISO 400
86% of full frame

All comments and critique very appreciated.
Thank You.

Blue Jays are very hard to "tame" into getting good poses. You did wel lhere getting he head angle turned toward you. A minor suggestion is to try to get the little guy on a smaller diameter branch.

Super sharp and perfectly exposed with nice light. I like the way the branch angles through the frame. I love corvids and miss these guys since moving out west. :toast:

That golden perch and terrific background really show the bird off well. Bird is sharp and colors look good

A great looking bird with perfect DOF Matt. The BG really takes this image to the next level for me. The diag. perch is also very nice. Well done.

Beautiful Matt. I grew up with these birds but we don't get them here. I lways like hearing their call when I visit back east. I agree about the smaller perch. You might also "fix" those little spots on the perch where the smaller branches broke off. :toast:
