I like the comp and light. Could maybe see cropping of 1/4 to 1/3 of the right side.

Like the subject driftwood and the star effect as well as the streaks of golden glow in the sand. Wish there were more color or clouds in the sky.

I really like this composition Kate. Colors are great, nice back lighting but what I like most is visualizing the shapes in the driftwood. To me it looks like a fantasy animal which is part horse, part man, and part elephant. The outstretched arms off the body of a horse, but having a man's head but the trunk of an elephant. I had nothing to drink, I swear. Nice capture.

For me the sun star and the shadows make the image. Nice composition.

Thanks gang!
Patricia...Me Too!! There was 80-90% cloud cover all day and true to coastal SC...in the last 30 minutes prior to sunset, the breezes took them all away. Happens all the time here and it drives me nutz!!
Peter...lay off the sauce! Thanks...I think I'll rename the photo "The Beast" or something...

A fabulous piece of driftwood. Love the strong shadow lines and sunstar. The sky is a bit empty, but there's some nice color and transition from blue to yellow.

The shape looks like a running animal Kate. I think you did well here with the conditions dealt.

And nice image Kate.

The sunstar is fantastic. together with the shadow the sunstar makes this image. The empty sky doesn't bother me

Kate,
This large piece of driftwood is fantastic! The imagination can run wild - I'm right there with Peter. There's lots of things to imagine here. How about the outstretched arms of Smeagol from Lord of the Rings? (ok, a bit of a stretch, but c'mon, use your imagination.)
I really like the simple clouds giving some interest in the sky and the light and sunstar are wonderful. A great beachside image.

I really appreciate all the comments folks! It really does look like some sort of creature..Smeagol is a nice interpretation Lon! Big fan of the Lord of the Rings myself! I'll head back there in a few months when the sun is in a different position and see what new creature I can create! Thanks everyone!
