to make this a single shot but none of the different focal positions and dof choices felt good, so this is a 7 image stack of one of my wife's orchids. Illumination is from a north window and the tripod was set up in the kitchen sink. (5D, 100mm macro, 2.5 s, f/25, tripod and cable release)

Really well done, Mark. I like the light and the detail. These close up images of orchids always seem to resemble something else. They should be used for Rorschach tests. To me, this one looks like a strange, alien bird with outstretched wings landing on a perch.

Mark: Hey, I use a bathroom as a studio so I guess the kitchen sink is fair game as well. I like your lighting and comp a lot and of course I like the subject. Very nice stack. 2 thumbs up. >=))>

I like this. I just left Bill F a comment on his and asked why these are so hard to shoot. They are beautiful but I can't seem to make them look very interesting. :frown:

Well captured Mark , I second the alien bird thing ! Perspective is everything here and it seems which ever way you shoot one of these flowers it comes out differently every time !!! Beautiful work and wonderfully presented ! :wavey:

Mark:
I like your lighting here. I often work in my kitchen as well

Orchids are really beautiful but I tend to struggle with composition. I like your point of view here and the stack really brings out all the intricate details and make it even more alien looking. I have x-ray this variety of orchid once but did not like what I got. I am going to try xraying a cymbidum one of this days.

I like the closeup comp and POV, good detail and DOF with your stacking.
Hope I'm not being too critical, but the colors look slightly skewed on my monitor.
Still, I hope that alien in there makes a soft landing

nice job mark, i really like your comp here. one small comment/question - why did you choose f/25 if you were focus stacking? 100mm sweet spot is a bit opened up around f/11-f/13 from my research/testing.
