Saw all the snowy's being posted from South Dakota and thought it would be worth the trip- 9 hour drive from Colorado. Saw 3 snowy's all hunkered down because of snow and high winds for 2 days. Nothing worth posting- on the way back ran across this snowy in North Platte.

Bob, like the owl's pose and the simple comp. I do see some things that hurt this image quite a bit. First, it looks like vignetteing has been applied as the inner portion of the image is much brighter than the outer rim area. I don't prefer this affect, but that is just a personnal thing. Second, the lightest areas of the bird lack detail due to being overexposed. Third, the bird and perch lack all fine detail. To me it looks like a heavy dose of noise reduction has been applied to the entire image. If I use NR, I never apply it to the bird or perch areas. I only apply it to the BG and then very sparingly. NR tends to remove all detail from things like feathers, snow, sand, etc.

I hope my critique helps you improve this and future images.

Cheers.

Nice pose and incredible sky, Bob. What the heck is that perch? I agree with Ron on the technical aspects, though I do tend to use more noise reduction than some.

Guys- Thanks for the comments. The Perch is a plastic light pole top off the interstate. As far as NR I used very mild reduction but, it was apparently too much. The whites could be better exposed although shot in bright light with clear skies.
