Desert Storm

Another from about 18months ago, this time a storm brewing west of Broken Hill in outback Australia. I would have liked to be sharper on the f/g plants but there was quite a wind blowing at the time. The rain did eventuate and we were "rained in" at our campsite 100 or so km's from here as the powdery clay tracks turned to glue. A one night stop turned into 4!
D300, Sigma 10-20 @ 10mm, 1/25th 2 f/16
I'll post another image from the same time below , interested to see which one people prefer. Opinions wanted!

Neale those clouds are amazing.
Well shot and processed.
I like both crops, with possibly at touch of FG cropped out of #2
Both are winners.
Wonderful landscape.

I am with Tom, both work in different ways. Great contrast with the warm and cool tones and great sky.

Looks like a ripper of a storm Neale. Sorry to hear it all turned to bog. I prefer the vertical image simply because it's lower the ground and I love the cracked red earth and wildflowers + max sky drama. Top shot.

The drama in the sky of the vertical makes it more of an eye catcher for me. Maybe too much magenta in the sky? The FG in the second is not as chaotic as the first - can you combine them? I guess I would have looked for a more direct compositional element in the vertical - maybe moving in closer to the right flower and earth cracks to make it more prominent to balance out the sky. The sky is so strong and dominating my eye immediately moves to it. Looks like a soaker of a storm. :toast:

Really strong comp and light. Sort of wish for more texture in the sky center left. I definitely like the first comp best.

Both work but i like the vertical comp better. IMO, it focuses the energy of the storm and creates a more drama. Very powerful image.
