Rough-legged Hawk

This hawk had just taken off from an ugly perch and for a change of pace it didn't turn around and take off away from me this time. Cropped fairly tight to minimize the background.

7D, 1/1600, f/6.3, ISO 500, 500 f/4, shot from pickup window on 12/16/11, cropped to 67% of original image then added canvas at bottom for composition, slight exposure adjustment in ACR, sharpened bird, no additional processing or adjustments, natural light, not baited, set up or called in

Love the grey BG for this bird Ron. Very dynamic flight position. Love the look at the face and feet in this shot. Nicely done.

Nice that he gave you this view Ron. Love that both the wings and the legs are outstretched, sweet capture.

Another excellent raptor flight shot, as usual, with great detail and really nice wing position. I would love to have a shot like this in my portfolio.

Wow, too stinking cool, wonderful timing to get this flight pose with wings spread up and talons down, really gives you a good look at this hawk's feather patterns, excellent shot Ron, the larger image looks great.

Amazing detail, wonderful light and the blood. What a perfect combination. Pity the poor man who would have to pick out your best image ever. Sisyphus of the photography world.

Sorry, but I'm just going to copy the comment I made on Ron B's wigeon because it applies here just as well:

Excellent. I just don't know how you manage to do this so consistently. But I suspect it has a lot to do with skill, experience, field time, and patience.
