Frosty morning

As some of you know Lon Overacker and I have made many trips up to the Klamath, Tule Lake area. This image is from a bridge right down town Merrill Oregon. That morning we had heavy hoar frost and fog witch made it pretty nice, right behind the trees to the left is a gas station.
Lon may have posted his image a few years ago. I hope you like my version.
Thanks for looking, C&C welcome.

Kyle - Looks like you are finally getting some sonw out in Tahoe! I like the many textures of this that you rarely get with a heavy snow fall. The natural edge of ice just brings me through the image. In th large version there is a dark spot/blotch on the top boarder that I might crop/clone out depending on your style. Just doesn't look like it belongs with the rest of the image's boarder (doesn't look like a branch).

This is absolutely beautiful!. I love the way the edge of the ice zig-zags its way into the center of the image and leads you right to those frosty trees!! :toast:

Absolutely beautiful soft winter image Kyle! The muted colors and curving ice along the shoreline that leads my eye through the image really make this for me! :toast:

Love your version. Beautiful detail in the frost and the gradual color transition to lack of color is wonderful. Nice handling of the whites. Print it large (and send me a copy). :toast:

Kyle that is a wonderful picture. The extremely muted colours create superb atmosphere and a tangible sense of chill. My eyes do lock onto the solid but small mass of frost/snow on the reed bed so you might find yourself tempted to clone him out, (i wouldn't), but for me everything else is just quite perfect. I could so easily see this hanging on somebodys wall, compelling in its simplicity, unaggressive and unassuming in hue.

This looks beautiful Kyle. A scene that would also be possible in my area - in case we get the low temperatures.

Excellent work, Kyle. I like the winding curves of the ice and the hoar frost on the foliage. A very wintry image.

Great stories and great memories Kyle. This is one of my favorite scenes from our many trips up there. A beautiful winter scene.

I've got to tell the story though. This was a trip with the camera club so there were a number of us photographing this area. This was captured from a small bridge that crosses the Lost river in Merrill, OR. Just 1 block from the main street. Very small rural town. Two old farmers in a pickup truck stopped on the bridge to see what we were doing. From what I can remember the driver said something like: "I've been driving over this bridge for 50 years and never did see anything worth taking a picture of." I'll always remember that moment.

Still a favorite of mine Kyle. Thanks for posting.

This really is gorgeous! I've heard about this shot a few times now, and wondered if I was ever going to get to see it. Glad I finally did.

Fantastic image. Your composition is exquisite, the curves in the ice leading the eye back, the great lines of the tree trunks and branches as well as the reeds, the wonderful frost, everything works so very well. The fog puts it over the top. Outstanding.
